Faculty of Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering provides value added services to increase the students' learning experience by its innovated traditional teaching practices.

We emphases on:

  1. Mind Training rather than the Information transfer,
  2. Problem Solving / Project-based learning,
  3. Teaching fundamental concepts accompany with details of current technology,
  4. Real-life-like assessment rather than examination-based assessment.

The major objective of every programme in WCIMT Australia is to train the mind of students so as to develop critical thinking ability, competence in finding information as well as learning how to use that information effectively once it is found.

The Faculty's programmes are designed to create adaptable and broad-based graduates who may require in some instances further training or the self-acquisition of further knowledge before they can undertake some particular specialist engineering tasks, but who are well prepared for any further learning in their chosen engineering area.

Our students are educated to reason by using fundamental concepts rather than to try to apply memorized facts and equations inadvertently. Abstract mathematical treatment of topics is avoided and mathematics is regarded as an engineering tool for creative thought and analysis.

Academic staff foster an atmosphere which is suitable for student-centered learning and which encourages and facilitates self-study and deep learning. Care is taken not to put students in a position where they have to absorb knowledge at the expense of neglecting the development of abilities such as designing, high-level problem solving, practical competence, and acquiring an enquiring and innovative attitude.

Examinations and coursework assessment are designed to evaluate the students' understanding of concepts as well as their knowledge and skills. The methods used for assessment resemble, as much as possible, the real-life challenges that the students are likely to face in their careers.

Special emphasis is placed on improving the English proficiency and communication skills of our students via a large variety of ways.

Staffs are encouraged to develop their individual styles of teaching and to use novel teaching /learning techniques in broad conformity with the teaching philosophy outlined above.

Teaching performance of staff are observed by the use of student feedback questionnaires and peer evaluation of teaching.

Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering was established in 1995 as part of the Faculty of Engineering, which has been offering degrees programmes. The Department today is internationally recognised for its excellence in teaching and training in a range of undergraduate degrees and for providing an outstanding research environment for staff and postgraduate students.

The main objective of the department is to conduct internationally competitive research, and deliver high quality teaching. Within our research groups the faculty staff, together with their research associates and students, are working at an internationally competitive level. The outcomes of the research can be seen in many industrial and commercial applications as well as is high quality publications.

The Department maintains a strong committment to teaching, both at undergraduate and higher degree level. Our popular undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses attract excellent students, and our graduates are sought by industry and commerce around the world.

The principal teaching activity of the Department is in the provision of courses to students of the Bachelor of Engineering degree, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and their combined double degree flavours with significant service teaching into Software Engineering and Mechatronics. The major teaching areas in the Department are telecommunications (devices, systems and networks), signal processing, electrical engineering and control systems.

The Department also offers both PhD and Masters research programs as well as three postgraduate coursework degrees - Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Masters in Telecommunication - designed specifically to give professionals the cutting edge in Telecommunications Engineering.

Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering

The department of Industrial & Systems Engineering is one of the five departments in the Faculty of Engineering of the West Coast Institute of Management & Technology Australia (WCIMT Australia)

The Department offers an undergraduate B.Eng(Hons) (Ind & Sys) Degree program and graduate programs leading to the M.Sc.(Ind & Sys Eng) Degree by coursework, and M.Eng & Ph.D Degrees by research. Many of our alumni now hold key positions in both the private and public sector in organization in Singapore.

Staff members in the Department are active in research. The Department has strong links with several academic departments and research institutes in the University, and with ISE-related industrial and government organizations.

Our curriculum is rigorous and forward looking. The knowledge and tools our graduates acquire will enable them to remain competitive and adaptable in the rapidly changing global environment.

The participants will have the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in the industrial and business setting. In the innovative Systems Design Project module, they will work in teams on company-sponsored projects over two semesters. They will be guided by ISE faculty members and industry partners to learn how to formulate and analyze an actual systems design problem and recommend a practical solution.

WCIMT Australia also have many exciting opportunities for our students to spend at least a semester overseas to broaden their educational experience.

Department of Mechanical Engineering

The mission of the department is to be a pioneer in education and research. We seek to produce future leaders for industry, academia, government, and society -- leaders whose vision is founded upon fundamental knowledge, analytical skills, creativity, perspective, and ethics. We seek to advance technology and science by combining basic knowledge with the innovative application of engineering and scientific principles and we also seek to enrich our educational and research programs, and ultimately society, through service.

Our educational mission is to prepare students for careers involving technological innovation and leadership. Our undergraduate educational program provides a broad base on which successful careers in engineering and a number of other fields can be founded, whereas the graduate program aims to prepare specialists, professionals, and scholars in mechanical engineering. The research mission of the Department -- which is to create knowledge, technologies and ideas through fundamental research and its application -- is closely intertwined with its educational mission.

The teaching and research programmes in the Department are organized according to both disciplinary and inter-disciplinary themes. We cover all of the core disciplinary areas of mechanical engineering including Dynamics, Controls, Solid Mechanics, Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Transport and Design. We have strong interdisciplinary programmes in Manufacturing, Energy.

This website serves for our internal use so that we can broadcast information about classes, current events and news to our students, faculty and staff and also serves as a window into the department for the outside world.
